I really like this perspective. When we got my daughter’s diagnosis/during our NICU stay a lot of my family members sent me “Welcome to Holland” and while I appreciated it, it always felt like it didn’t really encompass how my life had completely changed. You really put into words how I feel about “Welcome to Holland”.
I worked with a mom once that said this poem was a nice thought, but her flight to Italy was hijacked. And while she could appreciate the scenery and some of the people she met along the way were kind and helpful, she could never get over the feeling of being held hostage. That has stuck with me for years now~
